Enchanted Kitchen: Recipe Round-Up

Food is inherently magickal.

It nourishes us and enables us to function. When we smell, taste, or even think about food we enjoy, our brains release various feel-good hormones. Food was the first medicine, enabling us to heal from many maladies and injuries.

Flavor, nutrition, and energetic correspondences combine in an alchemy of flavor and intention.

Cooking unleashes our creative side and helps us build confidence. Meals bring communities of loved ones together around the same hearth fire, table, or marshmallow-toasting station. Eating brings us a sense of comfort and security.

Add to these things the magickal correspondences and energies present in food, and you’ve got a recipe for some incredibly powerful, badass magick.

This might be why kitchen witchery is among the most popular varieties of spellwork. We’re biologically compelled to eat, which means at some point we’ll probably have to prepare a meal...so why not channel some intention into something we already do?

Making Your Favorite Recipes Magickal

Though you can certainly create magickal recipes from scratch, there’s also nothing wrong with imbuing recipes from other sources with your own personal flavor of magick. In fact, having a recipe ready in front of you can help you decide what kind of working to do, or provide a customizable template for something you already have in mind.

For inspiration, here’s a few recipes Shannon and I make regularly, along with how we imbue them with our individual styles of magick.

Clockwise from upper left: Pickled onions, breakfast tacos, quiche with cauliflower crust, Waldorf salad, carrot ginger soup

Shannon is a bit of an onion fiend. She’ll eat them however she can get them, and especially loves the cronch in this recipe.

The combination of onions, vinegar, a dash of honey, and red pepper flake in this recipe give it lots of magickal potential. First and foremost, all of these ingredients have powerful antimicrobial properties. Onions, vinegar, honey, and spicy chili flakes have been used for centuries to treat colds and the flu. Purportedly, onions can draw infection directly from the air, while honey and vinegar are both popular antimicrobials.

Magickally, if you want to banish negative energy, this recipe will do it in a hurry. Onions are good for “peeling away” obstacles, and vinegar speeds up workings. Honey is a soothing protector also rife with self-love energy.

Another of Shannon’s favorite foods! She loves getting creative with the fillings and using whatever she has on hand to create interesting flavor combinations.

Eggs may be a perfect food.* Packed with protein and essential nutrients, most cultures hold eggs in high esteem. They represent fertility, new life, creation, and boundless potential, making them perfect for manifestation workings.

The veggies in the recipe symbolize love, creativity, protection, and determination, while the grains in the tortilla represent abundance and prosperity.

Use the recipe as-is, or change up the toppings to tailor it to your specific needs!

*Feel free to substitute animal eggs with a vegan egg substitute of your choice. The magick is in your perception and intention!

I’m a real sucker for quiche. Pretty much any combination of cheese, eggs, and crunchy carb-like goodness makes me unbelievably happy.

Cauliflower is having a moment as a healthier substitute for grain- and potato-based dishes.

Personally, I love both grains and white potatoes, but there’s a growing space in my heart for cauliflower. It’s jam-packed with vitamin C, B complex vitamins, and magnesium.

Magickally, this humble brassica is rife with lunar energy, glamour magick, and water energies. This makes it a perfect pairing fiery solar energy of the eggy custard filling.

I love making this quiche when I need comfort food and a spiritual pick-me-up. It’s also perfect for solar celebrations and feeding your tribe to bring everyone some abundance energy!

Recipe hack: The cauliflower crust makes FANTASTIC low-carb hashbrowns! Just mix as directed, form into about eight small patties and bake on a greased baking sheet at 350°F for an hour, turning halfway.

These make a fabulous addition to a solar celebration brunch or a “luck feast” where you focus on eating round (coin-shaped) and orange or golden foods to attract prosperity.

As aforementioned, Shannon loves cronch. She’s also a big fan of fresh, cold things that blend a bunch of contrasting flavors. This salad checks all the boxes for her.

There’s a lot of loveliness to unpack with this recipe, both nutritionally and magickally. First, it’s full of vitamin-rich ingredients like brain-boosting walnuts; vitamin-rich apples; resveratrol in purple grapes; and calcium, vitamin D, and healthy fat (if you use the Greek yogurt dressing opinion).

There’s also a ton of magickal potential here. First, any recipe that uses lots of little gem-like ingredients is wonderful for prosperity workings. Then, there’s each ingredient’s individual correspondences:

  • Apples are hands-down one of the most magickal foods out there. They represent everything from love and protection to prosperity, healing, and transformation.

  • Grapes symbolize prosperity, fertility (in humans, livestock, gardens, and ideas), increased mental acuity, and can be used to increase psychic power

  • Celery is also great for mental acuity and psychic powers!

  • Nuts, seeds, and dairy all represent abundance, prosperity, and good fortune

If you’re using this for an abundance working, try sharing it with your loved ones. I’ve found this helps open up my energy and strengthen connections so new opportunities can sneak in.

This could also make a fantastic addition to breakfast or brunch when you feel you need a brain boost or a shot of confidence to start your day.

This recipe tastes super indulgent and fancy. I love serving this at hosted dinners because the color is so vibrant. Of course, I love eating it alone, too, because it’s savory, spicy, and just a little sweet. Best. Flavor. Combo. Ever.

First, vegans and omnivores alike can enjoy this creamy soup. It’s thickened with pureed onions, carrots, and a generous dollop of coconut milk. Garlic and ginger give it roasty, savory, and spicy notes. It pairs well with sandwiches, crusty buttered bread, and savory proteins.

All of these ingredients are incredibly nutritious, making this a fabulous recipe to enjoy throughout fall through the cold, clear days of early spring to give your immune system a boost.

Magickally, this is my all-time favorite recipe for invoking prosperity, abundance, and health. It’s like the ingredients were handpicked for that very purpose.

Its creamy consistency also makes it good for cauldron magicks. Stir it in a sacred pattern, or sprinkle paprika, salt, or black pepper over the surface in the form of a sigil before folding in the magick!

Go, Create!

Enchanted cooking is an ancient magickal art. When we prepare food with intention, we’re not only crafting spells in the present, we’re reaching into the past to perform workings in tandem with our ancestors.

Food spells are also a great way to stay connected with our magick. Whether you’re making a simple cup of tea or crafting a finicky gourmet meal, each ingredient and tool you touch has some connection to the arcane.

Every fruit, veggie, nut, seed, and root is inherently infused with magickal potential, which is why kitchen witchery is one of my favorite ways to work magick—it’s almost impossible not to!

So, my friends, go, create and make magick!
