Though this may sound like a purely spiritual concept, the third eye isn’t just a metaphor. It’s physical manifestation within our brains is called the pineal gland.

Even if you know nothing else about New Age philosophy, you’ve probably heard the term third eye. This energy center located in the middle of the forehead is extremely important in many Indian and East Asian spiritual practices because it’s seen as the gateway to enlightenment.

When activated and tended properly, the third eye is said to provide us with personal gnosis beyond physical sight, as well as access to higher realms of consciousness and connection to divine energies.

Though this may sound like a purely spiritual concept, the third eye isn’t just a metaphor. It’s physical manifestation within our brains is called the pineal gland. This damp, pinecone-shaped little gland in the center of the cerebellum controls mood and helps regulate our sleep, which are essential to our well-being on their own.

However, the pineal gland possesses a myriad of characteristics that suggest it’s capable of much, much more than secreting and regulating specific hormones. The following videos explore some of the pineal gland’s possible functions and suggest that the power of the third eye—and spiritual energy—are far from being simple metaphors.

About the Apothecary

We created Metaphysical Apothecary as a place to share hidden knowledge and, perhaps, use that knowledge to gain a deeper understanding of our universe and our purpose.

By exploring history's secrets and uncovering lost or hidden knowledge, we can develop a deeper understanding of how to heal our bodies, minds, emotions, and spirits.

What's in a name?

Metaphysical means outside or beyond the physical realm. An apothecary is a place people visit to obtain the knowledge, supplies, and medicine needed to heal themselves. Healing alleviates suffering and helps us achieve peace, both with ourselves and with those around us.
