The Quicksilver Supermoon

Quicksilver—another name for liquid mercury, the metal—has quite the reputation within our society. Used for centuries by hat makers, in thermostats, and even by the ancient Aztecs as liquid silver rivers beneath the pyramids in Mexico City, we now know how dangerous and toxic the substance actually is. That doesn’t make it any less spiritually potent.

This afternoon, August 19th at 2:35 pm EDT, the Full Quicksilver Supermoon graces the skies on the Aquarius-Leo axis, underscoring the precarious and balanced nature of this moon’s energy.

While the Aquarius-Leo axis helps us find the balance between community, innovation, and individuality with creativity, authenticity, and self-sovereignty, the energies stretched between the full moon in Aquarius and the Sun in Leo emphasizes the tension between our conscious minds and our emotional needs.

Electricity supercharges the atmosphere of the Quicksilver Supermoon as the prominent player, Uranus, and the secondary planetary energy, retrograding Mercury, also manifest the electric currents on a more tangible level—like goosebumps or hair raising on our arms. This energy could manifest as distractions, anxieties, flashes of inspiration and creativity, and sudden changes.

For the next two weeks, until the New Moon lunation cycle begins on Monday, September 2nd when the Sun and Moon conjunct in Virgo, flashes of ideas and evolutions will streak through our lives, conscious, subconscious, and subtle bodies.

As these shocks to the system run their course, lean into the energy, but remember that with the retrograde energy, decisions can end up being retracted when Mercury stations direction again at the end of August on the 28th or during the post-shadow period until September 11th.

The Sun

The Sun rules Leo, making the luminary comfortable and powerful within its domicile. Traditionally, the Sun correlates to our awareness, focus, conscious mind, egos, and vitality—what brings us vigor and makes us feel alive. The Leo Sun opposing the Aquarius Supermoon indicates an potent emphasis on authenticity, self-sovereignty, and creativity.

The Gregarious Sun in Leo doesn’t just boost self-esteem and personal confidence, it also looks to inspire others to be confident and live authentically to their true self through living examples through each individual.

Adding strength to the Leo Sun through conjunction include Vesta and retrograding Mercury.

Vesta conjunct the Sun in Leo sparks fiery dedication and purpose to the Sun’s confident, inspiring, authenticity. Vesta represents sacred divinity within the self and in close conjunction with the Sun, Vesta provides energy to find and support self-empowerment through creativity, joy, and self-sovereignty. When we’re living in our authenticity, we give permission for others to live in their own authenticity.

While retrograde energy tends to cause mishaps and stumblings, like when we’re thinking—Mercury—faster than our bodies are moving for instance. As annoying as this quick paced energy can be, it’s supportive because it causes situations for us to slow down and pay attention to what we’re thinking, saying, doing. Retrograde Mercury conjunct the Leo Sun demands each of us to reevaluate, review, and reconsider how we think, express, and communicate our authentic selves to others.

Retrograding Mercury is also the second most prominent energy of this Full Quicksilver Supermoon. Not only does the planet Mercury rule over the metaphysical aspects of liquid mercury—quicksilver—but the retrograde energy of the plant of communicating, thinking, and transportation is easiest to feel in our mundane lives. This effect on our day-to-day routines asks as the best ways to deal with typos and trips in live is by pausing, taking a deep breath, relaxing the mind to calm down and retry.

The Moon

Full moons that occur after a new moon during the lunar cycle emphasizes the closing of energies started back at the New Moon as well as being a time to evaluate what actions were accomplished and what tasks were checked off the New Moon initiation list.

The Quicksilver Supermoon highlights the need to evaluate—and reevaulate with the opposition to Mercury Retrograde—the intentions and actions taken during the first half of the lunar cycle as well as how the conscious expression of creativity, authenticity, and self-sovereignty effected the community, innovations, and the expression of individual uniqueness.

The Aquarius Moon helps develop our vision for our lives and our dreams, what we want and what we need to feel secure moving forward to change the bits of our mundane lives causing us to stagnate or worse, move backwards away from those dreams and goals.

Alone in Aquarius, the Moon clarifies the bigger picture of what we each are visualizing and manifesting through open mindedness, thinking outside the box, and leaning away from the status quo and the traditions that no longer serve the unique individual nor the wellness of the entire tribe and community.

Squares

Squares—challenges between celestial bodies at 90° from each other—provide the necessary tensions to prompt change, growth, and action, otherwise it’s all too easy to become too content in the ways things are or are not moving.

The most prominent square as well as the most prominent energy of the Quicksilver Supermoon is Uranus. Uranus in Taurus challenges the Moon, Sun and its conjunction in a tight aspect—Uranus is at 27° Taurus, the Moon is at 27° Aquarius, and the Sun at 27° Leo. This tight square makes a T-Square—an aspect at the same degree, forming a T in the chart—with exact energy coursing between each point.

In modern interpretations of astrology, Uranus rules the sign of Aquarius and thus influences the moon during this lunation. It is also the planet of revolution, evolution, sudden changes, shocks, electricity, turbulence, science, the internet, and space.

During this square, Uranus provides challenges that will cause shocks to the systems and sudden, unexpected changes, even if some of those are retracted or reapplied differently after Mercury goes direct once again at the end of the month. Uranus’s revolutionary energy continues to crack open and reveal better, innovative, and more efficient ways of doing.

Other squares to the Sun and Moon include Gemini Sedna and Scorpio Pallas.

Sedna sits at 1° Gemini and aspects the Sun and Moon in an out-of-sign square. Sedna intellectually challenges, directing questions towards living up to our potential and our divinity. She demands each of us to face our fears regarding stepping into our power and authenticity rather than stepping down or backing away from ourselves.

Scorpio Pallas squaring the Sun and Moon doubles down on the same challenge as Sedna. Pallas pokes our shadow selves and traumas from our past ignored or hidden from our conscious minds. Scorpio Pallas works with our shadows and traumas to heal and prompt growth from within, facing our fears, and stepping into our powers pushed to the sides.

The Mutable T-Square

Normally, during the full moon articles and social media posts, I only write about the direct aspects to the Sun and Moon otherwise I’d write pages and pages. This Quicksilver Supermoon has a very important aspect to consider, the mutable T-Square between Venus in Virgo, Saturn in Pisces, and in Gemini both Mars and Jupiter.

This square is important enough to mention because it highlights challenges happening in the mutable signs as the T-Square between the Sun, Moon, and Uranus occur in the fixed signs. This indicated tensions building in not only what we thought was stable—the fixed signs’ energies—but also what we thought would change—the mutable signs’ energies.

Venus rules aesthetics and leisures; and in Virgo she is down-to-earth, practical, and meticulous. Saturn rules discipline and responsibility; in Pisces that energy is applied to our spirituality. Mars rules action and passion—which all too easily can manifest through aggression—in Gemini, the energy turns more verbal and intellectual. Jupiter rules growth and expansion; also in Gemini, he expands communication and curiosity.

These points challenge the other, providing tension to help each of us to transform and transcend towards practical, curious, intellectual, spiritual developments in our lives and ourselves.

T-Square Referees

The two big T-Squares—first between the Sun, Moon, and Uranus; and second between Venus, Saturn, and Jupiter and Mars—have referees or external celestial making harmonious aspects to the square points, helping to direct the energy.

The celestial acting to direct the fixed T-Square energy between the Sun, Moon, and Uranus is Jupiter in Gemini. Jupiter emphasizes growth, development, and curiosity to help push the stressed energy between the fixed square, adding oomph to “Know Thyself” empowerment.

For the mutable T-Square energy between Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars, Uranus in Taurus acts as the referee. Uranus directs the energies of the square toward evolution, change, and innovation through shifting understanding of our values.

These two heavy hitters, Jupiter and Uranus, add depth and support to feel and utilize the strong, influential currents of the squares for our individual growth and evolution.

Harmonious Aspects

Other celestial bodies providing support towards the Aquarius Moon and the Leo stellium between the Sun, Vesta, and retrograding Mercury include Jupiter and Mars in Gemini, Eris and Chiron in Aries, and Haumea in Scorpio.

As previously mentioned, Mars and Jupiter are playing important roles in the sky during this Quicksilver Supermoon. Gemini Mars provides support, especially verbal and intellectual, to the Sun and Moon, potentially helping to keep the inner critic and imposter syndrome voices in check if not silent. Meanwhile Jupiter is the referee of the fixed T-Square as stated above.

In Aries, Eris fights for freedom, independence, and personal agency. She supports the Sun and Moon through her fierce nature, to encourage personal autonomy and liberty. Chiron calls attention to the wounds to our self-sovereignty and personal agency that need to be healed as we continue to grow into empowerment.

Lastly, Haumea at 1 Scorpio makes an out-of-sign trine to the Aquarius Moon and sextile to the Leo stellium. Haumea correlates to fertility, creation, transformation, and nature. Making these harmonious aspects, she adds power towards manifesting growth and transformation in partnership with the natural world.

The Septile

Septiles have been unusually common the last few full moon lunations, and that says a lot about the energies vibrating all around and through us. Septiles represent spiritual insights, mystical experiences, and a touch of destiny between two celestial bodies.

The Quicksilver Supermoon sees a septile between the Aquarius Moon and Capricorn Ceres, emphasizing the magickal link between these two celestials.

The Moon reaches beyond the known tradition and status quo to innovate and invent fresh approaches to think and feel, while Ceres secures and provides nutrition to the physical, material vessel through discipline and developing structures.

The receptive, magnetic energies of this aspect enhance the connection between the heart, mind, and body. It also suggests that the projective and electric energy within all of us needs to first receive fuel, support, and inspirational ideas before acting.
